On September 22, 2025, there were about 157 sunspots visible on the Sun. Sunspots are dark, cooler patches on the Sun’s surface that are caused by intense magnetic fields. They often appear in groups called active regions. These sunspots play a key role in driving space weather like solar flares and auroras on Earth, and their number tells scientists how active the Sun is during its solar cycle.
Despite the large number of sunspot activity there were very few surface eruption or solar flares.
